Friday, April 1 \u00a0– \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 “Fill your lungs \u00a0. . \u00a0 with the air . . \u00a0this new \u00a0. . \u00a0 morning brings”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another good friend sent me a poem written by a poet I\u2019d not heard of before. \u00a0 The poem is located in the Christian faith tradition that \u00a0I share with many, but not all my soul friends. \u00a0A moment at dawn when a few women risk hurrying through a dark and hostile city to care for the dead body. \u00a0 \u00a0Love and loss, not enthusiasm, coming to keep vigil with spare expectations. \u00a0In the tradition’s Easter writings, Jesus risen is shocking before it is joyful.<\/p>\n

My friend told me\u00a0she thought I would like it. \u00a0She was right. \u00a0A fine song for a morning in the Easter Season. \u00a0Try reading with some pauses, out loud.<\/p>\n

If you are looking
\nfor a blessing,
\ndo not linger
\nhere.<\/p>\n

Here
\nis only
\nemptiness,
\na hollow,
\na husk
\nwhere a blessing
\nused to be.<\/p>\n

This blessing
\nwas not content
\nin its confinement.<\/p>\n

It could not abide
\nits isolation,
\nthe unrelenting silence,
\nthe pressing stench
\nof death.<\/p>\n

So if it is
\na blessing
\nyou seek,
\nopen your own
\nmouth.<\/p>\n

Fill your lungs
\nwith the air
\nthis new
\nmorning brings<\/p>\n

and then
\nrelease it
\nwith a cry.<\/p>\n

Hear how the blessing
\nbreaks forth
\nin your own voice,<\/p>\n

how your own lips
\nform every word
\nyou never dreamed
\nto say.<\/p>\n

See how the blessing
\ncircles back again,
\nwanting you to
\nrepeat it,
\nbut louder,<\/p>\n

how it draws you,
\npulls you,
\nsends you
\nto proclaim
\nits only word:<\/p>\n

Risen.
\nRisen.
