Friday, October 14 \u00a0– \u00a0Work Day\/Hard Time list takes a (Jesuit) retreat week<\/p>\n

Packing for my annual Jesuit retreat, on Connecticut\u2019s south shore of the Long Island Sound and on the banks of The Hammonasset River, a tidal estuary with sea birds and marsh grass. \u00a0Some breathing time.<\/p>\n

Back Sunday October 23.<\/p>\n

Have a blest mid-October week,<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s post\u00a0\u2014\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>Rabindranath\u00a0<\/strong>Tagore,<\/strong> Gitanjali # 5<\/u><\/p>\n

I ask for a moment\u2019s indulgence to sit by thy side,
\nThe works that I have in hand
\nI will finish afterwards.<\/p>\n

Away from the sight of thy face
\nmy heart knows no rest nor respite,
\nand my work becomes an endless toil
\nin a shoreless sea of toil.<\/p>\n

Now is the time to sit quiet,
\nface to face with thee
\nand to sing dedication of life
\nin this silent and overflowing leisure.<\/p>\n

p.s.\u00a0\u00a0Here\u2019s a tidal estuary where I go each year to be still for a while. \u00a0I happened to be standing in this place in October 2005 when my sister called my cell phone to tell me that our 102 year old mom had just died. \u00a0For me, a place of wild beauty; \u00a0the Long Island Sound plays with its shore line c. 1000 yards behind where I stood when I took this pic.<\/p>\n
