I stray today from an editorial principle, \u201cdo not re-post the same poet\/poem too soon.\u201d \u00a0But here I am re-posting Dunya Mikhail\u2019s \u201cMy Grandmother\u2019s Grave\u201d<\/a> (August 21 and now September 6). \u00a0 I do so to add the voice of this \u201cWork Day\/Hard Time\u201d list to the voices of the Sisters of Mercy and the Jesuits in the network of 28 Jesuit universities across the US \u00a0(http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/catholic-clergy-condemn-daca-decision_us_59af2475e4b0b5e53101d190?ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009<\/a>).\u00a0 \u00a0These networks of Detroit Mercy\u2019s sponsoring religious communities join other voices as we object to the Trump administration\u2019s decision to bring more misery and uncertainty to c. 800,000 Dreamer students. \u00a0 I might have posted Warsan Shire\u2019s \u201cHome\u201d or Joy Harjo\u2019s\u00a0\u201cGrace\u201d too. \u00a0All three women write poems to help readers get our imaginations around the fear of immigrants that, as in the violent years after World War I (c. 1919-1924), grips this country.<\/p>\n Perhaps Dunya comes to mind today because she shares my faith tradition as a Chaldean Catholic, and is a fellow citizen of Metro Detroit.<\/p>\n Have a blest day, awash as it is, in early autumn\u2019s crisp clean air.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n john sj<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Aug 21 Dunya Mikhail \u2013 a poet, a historian, a voice I stray today from an editorial principle, \u201cdo not re-post the same poet\/poem too soon.\u201d \u00a0But here I am re-posting Dunya Mikhail\u2019s \u201cMy Grandmother\u2019s Grave\u201d (August 21 and now … Continue reading
