Starting around 1956 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. began to call the world to create the \u201cBeloved Community.\u201d\u00a0 He explained:\u00a0 \u201cI am not talking about some emotional bosh when I talk about love . . . you love those who don\u2019t love you . . .\u00a0 because God loves.\u201d\u00a0 King looks for the\u00a0 \u201ctype of love that can transform opposers into friends.\u201d\u00a0 A love that empowered him to \u201cStand up for righteousness.\u00a0 Stand up for justice. Stand up for truth.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 King believed such love could empower Whites and Blacks together to end poverty and militarism and racism.<\/p>\n
