friday after Friday<\/strong>, May 17 – \u00a0 about very old wine and time for contemplation<\/p>\n

“My city is
\nThat cup of sunshine
\nI can drink to the last drop
\nAnd be thirsty for more.\u201d<\/p>\n

On this first Friday of the first work week after a beautiful Commencement, an intuition sent me back to\u00a0Fatemeh Keshavarz and her contemplation of 7000-year-old wine. \u00a0\u00a0\u201cBreathe a little more often than usual\u201d; \u00a0that\u2019s what this morning\u2019s intuition tells me. \u00a0Might be good for you too.<\/p>\n

Monday, November 14 \u00a0 Shiraz, \u201cthe oldest sample of wine in the world\u201d<\/p>\n

Poet\u00a0Fatemeh Keshavarz reaches deep in time to she lift up the beauty Shiraz, her home city in Iran. \u00a0\u00a0Shiraz has lived as a center for art and beauty for c. 4000 years. \u00a0 Wikipedia tells me that \u201cThe oldest sample of wine in the world, dating to approximately 7,000 years ago, was discovered on clay jars recovered outside of Shiraz.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Detroit is only 313 years old and the United States a lot younger than that, but in these days of terrified immigrants and their children, \u00a0of taunts boiling up from decades of grinding working class peoples\u2019 losses, the poet\u2019s praise of her ancient home town in Iran, another home\u00a0place of the resonant beauty and raw nerves offers stillness and courage to celebrate the simple beauty of a glass of good wine.<\/p>\n

I am using Fatemeh\u2019s poem\u00a0to celebrate the courage of refugees and immigrants today. \u00a0Lift a glass when you get off work. \u00a0 Perhaps before that, read the poem out loud, with pauses.<\/p>\n

\nIn their meticulous green thoughts
