{"id":3267,"date":"2019-12-02T00:00:53","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T05:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.udmercy.edu\/poetry\/?p=3267"},"modified":"2019-12-02T10:32:16","modified_gmt":"2019-12-02T15:32:16","slug":"dec-2-brave-women-the-anniversary-of-their-violent-murders-1980-el-salvador","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.udmercy.edu\/poetry\/2019\/12\/02\/dec-2-brave-women-the-anniversary-of-their-violent-murders-1980-el-salvador\/","title":{"rendered":"Dec 2 &#8212; brave women, the anniversary of their violent murders 1980 El Salvador"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Monday, December 2, 2019<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cturned in the air together<br \/>\nand landed backwards!<br \/>\nthat\u2019s what got me\u00a0\u2014<br \/>\nto face into the wind\u2019s teeth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On days offering anniversaries of courage and violence, \u00a0 flint-hard poetry can recall bravery to match meanness. \u00a0<em>On this date, December 2, 1980, four American women, Maura Clark and Ita Ford (Maryknoll sisters), Dorothy Kazel (Ursuline sister), and Jean Donovan a single young woman, were raped, murdered, and buried in Salvadoran shallow graves by out-of-uniform Salvadoran soldiers.
