\u201cThe dark thought, the shame, the malice,
\nmeet them at the door laughing,
\nand invite them in.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of my soul friends of many years emailed Rumi\u2019s \u201cGuest House\u201d yesterday. \u00a0 When readers send poems, they create a place of stillness in me and sometimes change my plans for a given day\u2019s post. \u00a0So it is this morning.<\/p>\n

Rumi\u2019s poem, posted on the cusp of this year\u2019s election day, creates a place alive with realism and laughter, grief and joy. \u00a0 Best to read this out loud with pauses, several times, breathing as you read.<\/p>\n

Have a blest week; \u00a0with three surprises today.<\/p>\n

p.s. \u00a0At about 3:00 am, this blue moon\u2019s radiant full shining in the western sky out my window led me to open the window and lean out, \u00a0gazing at our precise 1789 \u00a0surveyor-line intersection of Six Mile and Livernois. \u00a0Fits with Rumi\u2019s \u201cGuest House,\u201d makes a place of wonder.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s Post\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThe Guest House\u201d<\/p>\n

This being human is a guest house.
\nEvery morning a new arrival.<\/p>\n

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
\nsome momentary awareness comes
\nAs an unexpected visitor.<\/p>\n

Welcome and entertain them all!
\nEven if they\u2019re a crowd of sorrows,
\nwho violently sweep your house
\nempty of its furniture,
\nstill treat each guest honorably.
\nHe may be clearing you out
\nfor some new delight.<\/p>\n

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
\nmeet them at the door laughing,
\nand invite them in.<\/p>\n

Be grateful for whoever comes,
\nbecause each has been sent
\nas a guide from beyond.<\/p>\n
