In 2018 for\u00a0The Climate Reality Project<\/a> and riffing off of\u00a0the iconic photo\u00a0of the Earth rising over the surface of the Moon (taken by Apollo 8 astronauts), Gorman wrote a poem called \u201cEarthrise\u201d about the climate emergency and the action we must take to end it.<\/p>\n

Best to read \u201cEarthrise\u201d out loud, with pauses.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s Post \u00a0<\/strong>From\u00a0the text of the poem<\/a>: \u201cEarthrise\u201d<\/p>\n

Where despite disparities
\nWe all care to protect this world,
\nThis riddled blue marble, this little true marvel
\nTo muster the verve and the nerve
\nTo see how we can serve
\nOur planet. You don\u2019t need to be a politician
\nTo make it your mission to conserve, to protect,
\nTo preserve that one and only home
\nThat is ours,
\nTo use your unique power
\nTo give next generations the planet they deserve.<\/p>\n

We are demonstrating, creating, advocating
\nWe heed this inconvenient truth, because we need to be anything but lenient
\nWith the future of our youth.<\/p>\n

And while this is a training,
\nin sustaining the future of our planet,
\nThere is no rehearsal. The time is
\nNow
\nNow
\nNow,
\nBecause the reversal of harm,
\nAnd protection of a future so universal
\nShould be anything but controversial.<\/p>\n

So, earth, pale blue dot
\nWe will fail you not.<\/p>\n
