Friday, the 8th of August<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know where these two notes came from. \u00a0 When did I come across Herman Melville\u2019s note to Nathaniel Hawthorne? \u00a0Decades ago, that\u2019s for sure, when I fell in love with the snap and candor in this snip of personal correspondence, written long hand. \u00a0A couple years back I paired them with a saying by John Forbes Nash. \u00a0How did they land in the same Word file? \u00a0 \u00a0Two 19th century broad range writers and a genius mathematician now in his late 80\u2019s. \u00a0I must have thought they would recognize each other. \u00a0For a Friday at the end of a work week \u00a0both texts suggest that to-do lists take on deeper meaning because of affection. \u00a0 \u00a0The work we do satisfies when we \u00a0get something done competently. \u00a0 Sometimes, though, the beauty in the work brings us to a halt and we can hear ourselves breathing.<\/p>\n

I hope your\u00a0weekend filled with beauty and wit, and mine too.<\/p>\n

I stand for the heart.<\/p>\n

To the dogs with the head!<\/p>\n

I had rather be a fool with a heart<\/p>\n

Than Jupiter Olympus with his head.<\/p>\n

The reason the mass of men fear God and at bottom dislike Him,<\/p>\n

is because they rather distrust His heart<\/p>\n

and fancy Him all brain<\/p>\n

like a watch.<\/p>\n
