What is a search advocate?
A search advocate is a trained member of a search committee whose role is to ensure equity and validity in the search process. The seven core values of search advocacy are:
- Collaboration- working together towards a shared goal
- Curiosity- focusing on trying to understand, rather than making quick judgements
- Empathy- being open to others’ thoughts, feelings, and experiences
- Equity- removing barriers and ensuring everyone has the support they need to succeed
- Hospitality- providing a welcoming environment that meets the needs and desires of all
- Inclusion- valuing each person and their differences, supporting the full participation of all
- Respect- treating others with courtesy and dignity
