The University is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Detroit Mercy Photography Contest, with a big congratulations to Prof. Varinder Kaur, Department of Counseling and Addiction Studies, for winning the Best of Show award for her photo, “Mars Saturn Jupiter Milky Way.”
The contest is a great way to share the love of photography across the Detroit Mercy community. Just as we celebrate success in academics, the University also celebrates our success in creativity, as we recognize the education of the whole person.

- Best of Show: Varinder Kaur, assistant professor of Counseling and Addiction Studies — “Mars Saturn Jupiter Milky Way”
- Abstract/Conceptual: Danica Bogdanovic, Architecture student — “Gaudis Barcelona”
- After Dusk to Dawn: Kirstie Plantenburg, professor of Mechanical Engineering — “Sparks”
- Digital Creation: Nicholas D’Asti, Architecture student — “Liftoff”
- Nature/Scene: Salina Mueller, Physician Assistant student — “Morning Serenity”
- People: Erin DeFever, Religious Studies student — “Mercutio”
Prof. Kaur receives a $500 gift card and a 20×30 mounted print of the winning photograph. Each first-place winner receives a $100 gift card and a 16×24 mounted print of their winning photograph.
