Celebrating CLAE at the May College Meeting

Faculty, students, and staff came together at the May 2024 College meeting in the Architecture Exhibition Space to celebrate an exciting year and our renaming as the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (CHASS). We looked back as we look forward.

Prof. Jason Roche, in collaboration with Brian Maisonville and Michael Jayson, created a short video capturing key moments in CLAE’s history that can be seen here: https://youtu.be/y3mtZJvGuhE. We are so grateful for the time and talent leveraged to develop this video which will help us remember CLAE’s legacy well into the future.

Pens with the CLAE logo were distributed at the meeting as a gift to our community. These will also be given to all of our graduating students at commencement where two group pictures and drone shots will be taken to memorialize the last class of CLAE graduates.

The College meeting also showcased faculty scholarly accomplishments. Prof. Felicia Grey delivered the annual Dean’s Lecture, “The Selective Complainant: An Examination of China’s Litigation Patterns at the WTO.”

The College recognized Fr. Justin Kelly’s fifty-two years of service. Prof. Hsiao-Lan Hu was awarded the Magis Faculty Recognition Award for a commitment to this year’s theme, “diversity is our strength,” as exhibited through teaching, service and research. Prof. Hu’s name will appear on a plaque in the Dean’s Office. Prof. Hu also received a monetary award.

Following the meeting, faculty and staff gathered for food, drink, and music at Briggs on the Porch where we lifted a glass to honor a year of great accomplishment and the outstanding legacy of CLAE.
