In the 2024 Winter semester, 104 University of Detroit Mercy Titans completed the Committee Letter Process as part of their application journey to Medical, Dental and other graduate programs in the health professions.
Having a competitive application to graduate school is more than just academic preparation and a good test score. It includes development of skills and perspective that is learned both on and off campus. Titans have worked, shadowed in clinical settings, researched, and/or volunteered for years before using the committee letter process. Titans shared their preparation by the following documents:
- Transcripts & a Centralized Application Service formatted GPA Calculator
- Application highlighting activities on and off campus post high school graduation
- Reflection of how they have demonstrated the University of Detroit Mercy’s Jesuit and Mercy values as future clinicians
- Video personal statements sharing their journey leading to applying to a life of healthcare service.
- Responses to 9 brief essay/questions
Each Titan who has completed the committee letter packet has been assigned to one of 13 Committees of Faculty and Administrators who will meet and evaluate their assigned students. This year’s committee members really reflect a campuswide engagement that highlights how student-centered the university is.
Students continue to have support through individualized application services and group interview prep services from the university’s pre-health advisor.
The University of Detroit Mercy has sponsored the test prep and professional development needs of students, faculty and staff with Kaplan All Access. This new resource allows Titans to prep with the best without limitation during their time in their degree and through 6 months post graduation.
It is a great time to be a Pre-Health Titan!
