Detroit Mercy will be well represented at a Lenten discussion series hosted by Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Lake Orion, Mich.
For the next four Thursdays, the parish will host Lenten Soup Suppers at which speakers will introduce and explore Ignatian Spirituality, the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, better known as the Jesuits.
Here’s the schedule:
- March 9: Alan Haras ’16 will introduce the precepts and give a brief overview of the life of St. Ignatius.
- March 16: John Staudenmaier, S.J., who is assistant to the president for Mission & Identity at Detroit Mercy in addition to being a priest, professor, scholar and scientist, will discuss “The Inner Geography of Prayer” with the help of St. Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises.
- March 23: Ann Dillon, who co-leads the Seminar on Ignatian Spirituality and the Internship in Spiritual Companionship at Manresa Jesuit Retreat house, will focus on The Examen, a “short but might daily prayer to help us ‘notice what we notice’ about our day and discern what God may be inviting us to in what we notice.
- March 30: Tom Florek, S.J., who is Jesuit-in-Residence at Detroit Mercy, will pull it all together with a talk titled “Mercy in Action,” helping us find ways to use the knowledge learned into action in the world.
Each Thursday’s event begins at 6 with homemade soup provided by volunteers and ends at 9 p.m. For more information, visit the church website here.
