Oakland County Circuit Judge and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law alumna Denise K. Langford Morris ’82 will receive the Mary S. Coleman award at the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) Centennial Gala on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Detroit’s Colony Club.
The award is named for Mary S. Coleman, the first woman Michigan Supreme Court justice. The award bearing her name is bestowed annually to a current or former member of the Michigan federal, state or tribal judiciary whose leadership, talent and significant contributions to women provide a role model for women in the profession and women in general.
“Judge Langford Morris exemplifies the best of Detroit Mercy Law graduates,” said Phyllis L. Crocker, dean of University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. “She is a leader in our community who is committed to public service and to mentoring our students and graduates so they, too, become leaders. These qualities make her the perfect recipient of the WLAM Mary S. Coleman Award.”
Langford Morris has served on the Circuit Court since 1992. Previously, she was an assistant U.S. attorney, civil division, an assistant Oakland County prosecutor, and a trial attorney in private practice specializing in insurance defense and in numerous areas of law. She also worked for the Michigan Department of Social Services as a protective services worker while attending law school. She is a member of the University’s Board of Trustees.
