AmeriCorps Community Training – Become an Overdose Rescue Trainer

AmeriCorps Community Training – ACT

The ACT program launched this past October in response to the opioid epidemic and is housed at WSU’s Center for Urban Studies. The goal of ACT is to reduce opioid-related fatalities within the tri-county area. They are seeking interested students to join their team as AmeriCorps members.

As part of the ACT team, students will train community members across metro-Detroit how to respond during an overdose emergency and provide trained participants with life-saving Narcan (an overdose-revering nasal spray). Students will receive a living allowance during their term, and upon completing their service hours, they will receive an Education Award from the National Service Trust that members can use to pay for higher education costs.

This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain applied experience (and meaningful engagement) in public health, social interventions, and community-based initiatives.

Each member must commit to a 6-month term of service. Our next start date is April 29, 2020. This time, we will offer 2 different “track” options. One option will allow a member to serve for 30 hours a week, and reflect more of a summer internship commitment where they finish their term at the end of August. The other ‘track’ is our typical part-time 20 hr/week track where they complete their term mid-October.
They are always looking for people to participate as Overdose Rescue trainers. They on-board a new cohort about every 3 months.
