AmeriCorps Community Training – Become an Overdose Rescue Trainer

AmeriCorps Community Training – ACT

The ACT program launched this past October in response to the opioid epidemic and is housed at WSU’s Center for Urban Studies. The goal of ACT is to reduce opioid-related fatalities within the tri-county area. They are seeking interested students to join their team as AmeriCorps members.

As part of the ACT team, students will train community members across metro-Detroit how to respond during an overdose emergency and provide trained participants with life-saving Narcan (an overdose-revering nasal spray). Students will receive a living allowance during their term, and upon completing their service hours, they will receive an Education Award from the National Service Trust that members can use to pay for higher education costs.

This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain applied experience (and meaningful engagement) in public health, social interventions, and community-based initiatives.

Each member must commit to a 6-month term of service. Our next start date is April 29, 2020. This time, we will offer 2 different “track” options. One option will allow a member to serve for 30 hours a week, and reflect more of a summer internship commitment where they finish their term at the end of August. The other ‘track’ is our typical part-time 20 hr/week track where they complete their term mid-October.
They are always looking for people to participate as Overdose Rescue trainers. They on-board a new cohort about every 3 months.

PrepMD’s Cardiac Clinical Specialist Program

PrepMD has a cardiac clinical specialist 24-week (6-month) program. We train recent college graduates and working professionals for a rewarding career that makes an enormous difference in the lives of patients.
Program Overview: PrepMD is a 24-week intense training program that trains and then places individuals as cardiac clinical specialists working on behalf of medical device companies or within major healthcare systems in the U.S. First 8 weeks of the program is online (distance learning) followed by 16 weeks of hands-on training and clinical rotations at Harvard and Tufts affiliated medical centers in the Boston area.
Financing & Placements: Our students come from all over the country and we place them in these jobs based on their geographic and industry preferences. The overall tuition+fees for the program is $31.5K and the average overall starting package for our grads is $84K (base salaries ranging between $60K and $80K). Our current placement rate is 98%! Meritize offers financing covering tuition (and maximum living expenses if needed) for accepted students. We do rolling admissions and are actively interviewing candidates for the 3 upcoming sessions.
Career Overview: PrepMD grads play a critical role during cardiac device implantation and electrophysiology (EP) procedures, and during ongoing monitoring of patients who have cardiac devices such as pacemakers and ICDs. These rewarding careers offer tremendous opportunities to grow enabling them to pursue roles in clinical management, sales & marketing, training or research depending on their interests.
