University Recreation starts fresh this fall with intramurals, fitness and more

The Student Fitness Center is now open and University Recreation is very excited to see Titans return to campus in a safe and healthy environment. Visit the Student Fitness Center for current hours of operation.

University Recreation LogoCOVID-19 Modifications

To assure the safety and health of our Titan community, please be aware of the current modifications to the Student Fitness Center:
• Masks required indoors
• Check-in and check-out procedures established for contact tracing
• Cleaning and sanitization increased throughout the Student Fitness Center
• Second floor fitness area and indoor track currently closed
• Basketball courts currently closed
• Lobby furniture moved to allow for social distancing
• Bikes available for check-out with contactless system
• Tennis rackets, disc golf equipment and outdoor games available for check-out
• Group exercise room capacity set to two people
• Locker rooms currently open and available
• Day lockers and towels currently unavailable

Intramural Sports (IM)

Registration is now open for the following intramural sports:
• IM Tennis – Register before Sept. 4; Leagues begin Sept. 6
• IM Sand Volleyball (4v4) – Register before Sept. 4; Leagues begin Sept. 6
• IM Cornhole Tournament – Register online; Tournament begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at the Student Fitness Center

Introducing Intramural eSports

Sign up online, email Matt Higley at higleyml@udmercy.edu or join the Discord server and be a part of the new IM eSports program. University Recreation is now organizing leagues for the following games:
• League of Legends (PC)
• MADDEN 2020 (XBOX/PS4)
• NBA 2k20-myCareer (XBOX/PS4)
• FIFA 2020 (XBOX/PS4)
• Pokémon Go Battles (Mobile)
• Pokkén Tournament (Switch)
• Super Smash Brothers Ultimate (Switch)

Fitness Classes

University Recreation offers free in-person (socially distant), outdoor and virtual fitness classes beginning Monday, Aug. 24. Virtual fitness classes will be streamed to Instagram Live @DetroitMercyRec. Most in-person classes (except yoga) will be held in the parking lot behind the Student Fitness Center. Register for a fitness class on Detroit Mercy Live or use the CORQ app. See the UREC Fitness Class page or social media for the full schedule and more information.

Virtual Personal Training

Virtual personal training is now available. Plan a home workout and receive nutrition guidelines with a personal trainer to help you reach your goals. Email Matt Chesley at cheslemd@udmercy.edu or call 313-993-1784.

Detroit Mercy Biggest Loser Competition

Are you ready to lose their “Quarantine 15?” Flatten the curve with the fall edition of Detroit Mercy Biggest Loser. From Sept. 8 through Oct. 16, individuals compete to lose the most weight. In-person, socially-distanced weigh-ins will be available with virtual screenshots also acceptable this year. Registration is $20 and open until Monday, Sept. 14.
