Antoine Davis featured in ESPN article, reaches 2,500 points

University of Detroit Mercy men’s basketball student-athlete Antoine Davis.Detroit Mercy men’s basketball senior Antoine Davis, his father, head coach Mike Davis, and assistant coach Mike Davis Jr. were recently featured in an ESPN.com article, “A basketball family thrives at Detroit Mercy.

Davis scored 26 points in Wednesday’s road 79-62 road win at Robert Morris, surpassing the 2,500-point milestone in the process. Davis, who became the school’s career points leader earlier this season, became the 76th player in Division I men’s basketball history to eclipse that mark.

Davis currently also leads the nation in scoring at 23.3 points per game. The only other Titan to ever lead the nation in a statistical category was Titan Hall of Famer Spencer Haywood, who led the country in rebounding (22.1 per game) in 1968-69.

The Titans improved to 10-11 overall and 7-4 in the Horizon League in Wednesday’s win. Detroit Mercy plays at Youngstown State Friday, Feb. 11 before taking on rival Oakland in Rochester on Sunday, Feb. 13. The next home game is Friday, Feb. 18 against Northern Kentucky.
