Journalists to discuss reporting on doctors helping Ukrainian children

University of Detroit Mercy will host veteran Detroit Free Press journalists Mandi Wright and Kristen Jordan Shamus, who will discuss their experiences covering a story from Poland about Michigan doctors treating children wounded in the war in Ukraine.

In the event, titled “From Trauma to Transformation,” the journalists will share their experiences while reporting on the efforts undertaken to transport injured Ukrainian children out of war zones so they could be treated, many for war injuries.

The event will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, in the School of Architecture & Community Development’s Genevieve Fisk Loranger Architectural Center/Exhibition Space, located on UDM’s McNichols Campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Wright is an Emmy Award-winning photojournalist and Shamus is a reporter whose stories touch on the ways in which health and gender topics intersect with politics and social justice issues.
