Pre-Med Titans can engage numerous Osteopathic Medicine program recruiters from across the country in chat rooms &/or watch live Information Sessions. This is a free online Careereco.com event between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm. 

Join us for the 2020 Virtual Medical School fair, February 20, 2020, from 11:00 – 8:00 pm ET.
Last year, over 9,100 aspiring medical students and medical school professionals as well as 70+ medical schools from the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada participated.

When you attend the AAMC Virtual Medical School Fair on Feb. 20, you can visit representatives of over 70 medical schools between 11 AM and 8 PM ET. Additionally, we invite you to (virtually) attend the following free, live informational sessions designed for aspiring medical students.

11:30-12:30 p.m. ET: Tips and Tools for Financing your Application and Career in Medicine
This session will discuss how to best prepare for the cost of applying to medical school and provide you with the information and resources to understand what you need to know to pay for medical school. During this session, you will hear from a pre-health advisor, as well as an education debt management specialist that will provide tips and tools to help prepare you for your financial journey, and answer questions about the expenses that you will navigate through applying and attending medical school.

1-2 p.m. ET: New Medical Schools: Myths & Tips

In this session, newly accredited medical schools will share their experiences in admitting a first year class and address some of the myths, benefits, and tips of attending a new medical school.

  • Kate Fukawa-Connelly, Director of Health Professions Advising, Princeton University.
  • Seth J. Ramus, Director of Health Professions Advising, Bowdoin College
  • Jessica Kongthong, Associate Director, Pre-Health and Pre-Med, University of California, San Diego (UCSD)

2:30 – 3:30 p.m. ET: Making the Most of Your Glide Year(s)
In this panel session, three pre-health advisors will share information about how they advise students to spend their glide years and provide guidance to students approaching this time.

4:00 – 5:00 p.m. ET: The Application Process and Resources for Applicants & Premeds
In this session, AAMC staff will share some of the tools, resources, and information the AAMC maintains to help you prepare for the medical school application process. This includes how to get relevant experience, what you need to know about the MCAT exam and AMCAS application, and where to find advice from current medical students.

SHPEP Summer 2020 Health Professions Education Program

In this 60-minute session, you will hear directly from program sites, who are reviewing applications, and a recent SHPEP scholar.

Pre-Med Titans Apply to MSU CHM Early Assurance Program

Michigan State University College of Human Medicine – Early Assurance Program 

  • Schedule CASPer assessment on or before January 9, 2020
  • Register for MCAT on or before June 5th
  • Student completes online EAP application between 12/2/2019 – 2/3/2019. Applications are due 2/3/2020 at midnight. 
  • Secure 3 to 5  Letter Writers (1 Science Faculty letter, 1 Clinical for MSU CHM EAP. Note this is much earlier than the Detroit Mercy committee letter process and before the AMCAS application is open. Three letters are due to prehealth@udmercy.edu on or before February 21, 2020.  Please note that the MSUCHM- EAP website is not updated with the 2020 EAP Application Process Timeline with new due dates.
  • Schedule Pre-Med Titan to MSU CHM EAP session with pre-health advisor on or before January 31st in order to review survey.  Contact Carmen Gamlin, gamlincd@udmercy.edu or (313) 993-1956 who must submit coordinated packet (3 letters, Endorsement letter, Transcript) on or before February 28th.

The University of Michigan Samuel & Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center is pleased to announce our 2020 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program is now accepting applications!  The SURF program provides full-time research opportunities at the University of Michigan for 30 talented undergraduate students interested in cardiovascular research and medicine. The program starts Tuesday, May 26, 2020 and ends the first week of August.

University of Michigan Dentistry Opportunities for Pre-Dent Titans

The Doctor of Dental Surgery is a full-time, four year DDS degree program integrating biomedical sciences, clinical sciences and patient care.  Application for the DDS is organized through ADEA Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS).  Applications open in Mid-May and we highly recommend to have your application ready to submit by the end of June.
Our school offers a Profile for Success program for college juniors, seniors and recent grads to help prepare students from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds be successful in their application to a Dental School.  The program is free to all participants. The deadline to submit an application to Profiles for Success is March 1st.
Two programs for summer research (for pre-dent) include:

     Application due February 10th.
     Select School of Dentistry
     Application due January 15th
     Select – Oral Health Sciences (under Dentistry) in the programs of study
There is no harm in applying to both.  Other opportunities are in the information I send to prospective students and advisors below.
Research Day at the School of Dentistry is Wednesday, February 19th – https://dent.umich.edu/research-day  
The Oral Health Sciences (OHS) PhD Program’s primary objective is to train outstanding students to become leaders in academic research in the field of oral health science.  Major areas of study include: developmental craniofacial biology; mineralized tissue biology and musculoskeletal disorders; oral and pharyngeal cancer; oral health disparities; oral infectious and immunologic diseases; oral sensory systems and central circuits; and tissue engineering and regeneration.  The program can be combined as a dual degree DDS/PhD program.  Full funding and fellowships are available for all applicants to the program.  More information can be provided by completing the OHS Program Info Form
The OHS PhD Program is hosting a recruiting conference on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 and I encourage anyone interested in learning more about Michigan, admission criteria, application hints and more to attend.  Attendees will also meet with the program director, faculty, and current students while getting a snapshot of the research conducted at the School of Dentistry.  Financial support can be provided to potential applicants. Summer Research opportunities at the University of Michigan are provided at various schools and colleges on campus.  Rackham Graduate School runs SROP which is a program that connects students with research across campus and is designed for outstanding students who are underrepresented in their field of study (deadline to apply is January 15, 2020).  Also the Medical School on campus has provided a great list of all the opportunities on campus – check out their information – Undergrad Summer Research.
