University of Detroit Mercy announced today an adjustment in graduate tuition for the institution’s MBA, Master of Community Development and graduate programs in Architecture, Nursing and Engineering.
The new reduced tuitions now make Detroit Mercy’s high-quality, nationally ranked graduate programs even more affordable choices than ever before. The new tuition prices are effective beginning summer term 2019, which starts May 7.
Antoine M. Garibaldi, president of the University, said this realignment comes at a key time for the city of Detroit and the University, and provides Detroit Mercy with a stronger competitive opportunity.
“This decision is based on our recognition that many employees in local, regional and global companies want to add more value to their academic credentials,” Garibaldi said. “University of Detroit Mercy can readily assist them and their corporate and nonprofit employers, by providing our highly ranked, master’s degree-level programs at a very affordable price.”
This tuition realignment was developed to respond to a growing need for more technically skilled, business-minded and community-focused professionals in Detroit. Additionally, Detroit Mercy analyzed the market and determined that this decision would be in the best interest of employees and the needs of business and industry. Therefore, this tuition adjustment will increase accessibility to nationally ranked graduate programs for candidates who wish to pursue their studies at Michigan’s largest Catholic University that is founded on Jesuit and Mercy values.
Specific details about the tuition realignment for each program are below.
Master of Business Administration
Detroit Mercy’s nationally ranked MBA program will reduce tuition from $1,579 to $789 a credit hour. The program offers a personal academic approach to help students prepare for a rapidly evolving business world. Small class sizes ensure individual attention from the College of Business Administration’s highly experienced faculty, many of whom serve as consultants in the private and public sectors. Other unique features of Detroit Mercy’s MBA include a strong emphasis on business ethics and service-learning.
Graduate Engineering Program
The College of Engineering & Science will reduce graduate engineering tuition from $1,607 to $804 a credit hour. This change in tuition entails the master in product development, certificate program in advance electric vehicles, certificate program in autonomous vehicles and certificate program in systems engineering. The engineering program offers the third oldest cooperative education program in the country. The College offers high-quality academic programs available in alternative delivery methods that meet the demands of local industry searching for solutions to significant workforce needs. Additionally, the college is sought out by corporate partners to develop graduate certificates to meet their training needs as well as the local, state and national workforce needs.
Master of Community Development
Tuition for the Master of Community Development (MCD) will drop from $981 to $789 a credit hour. The MCD is a unique program within the School of Architecture designed by an interdisciplinary faculty to create a holistic approach to the theory and practice of community development. It is rooted in service, social justice and sustainability, which are hallmarks of the institution’s Jesuit and Mercy traditions. MCD students have collaborated closely with more than 100 local nonprofit organizations in support of class assignments, capstone projects, research, internships and fellowships. More than 90 accomplished graduates currently work at many leading nonprofit and municipal organizations and competitive fellowship programs throughout the metropolitan region.
Graduate Architecture Program
The tuition structure for the graduate Architecture program is based on a flat yearly rate of $32,558, compared to the previous rate of $46,738. The five-year Master of Architecture degree is accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board. The program focuses on both the theory and practice of design and is the recommended degree for students who wish to become practicing architects. The School of Architecture is internationally known for its focus on urban architectural issues, dedication to sustainable design and commitment to community service and study abroad.
Graduate Nursing Program
Detroit Mercy’s College of Health Professions & McAuley School of Nursing graduate degree in nursing will see a tuition reduction from $981 to $840 a credit hour. This reduction is in response to the College’s many community partners that express the need for advanced practice nurses (nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, clinical nurse leaders and health system managers). Additionally, as health care professionals choose retirement, the demand for advanced-degree nurses grows. The graduate nursing program covers the following specific degrees: family nurse practitioner (FNP); doctor of nurse practice (DNP); clinical nurse specialist (CNS); clinical nurse leader (CNL); and health systems management (HSM).
College of Liberal Arts & Education
The University’s College of Liberal Arts & Education established a tuition discount of almost 50 percent for online graduate programs in cybersecurity, computer information systems, economics and financial economics several years ago. In addition, the University’s School Educators Tuition Remission provides a 60 percent discount to qualified educators for all College programs that are not already discounted. The College also offers a 50 percent discount for some programs for clergy and lay persons serving full-time in a parish or congregation.
