Professor of History Roy E. Finkenbine published the article, “Want to Understand American Slavery?” on the History News Network, July 22.

Finkenbine also presented the paper, “The Fugitive Slave Experience in Indian Country: Perrysburg, Ohio, as a Case Study” at the annual meeting of the Midwestern History Association at Grand Rapids, June 6. Professor of History Greg Sumner presented the paper, “‘Dogface Poets’: Ernie Pyle and Bill Mauldin Up Front in Italy, 1943-44.” at the awards ceremony following the conference, Sumner and Professor of History Roy E. Finkenbine both accepted the Hamlin Garland Prize for “best popular historical writing on the Midwest” on behalf of the editor and other contributors to Detroit 1967: Origins, Impact Legacies (Wayne State University Press, 2017).
