Detroit Mercy Theatre Company‘s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” written by William Shakespeare and directed by Outreach & Audience Development Coordinator Damian Torres-Botello, S.J. is coming Jan. 30, 31, Feb. 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9, 2020.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” explores love in all its forms, bringing it to the center of the Bard’s most magical play where chaos and mishaps abound as fiery lovers, amateur actors, mischievous fairies and the forces of nature collide. Witness a world transformed into a place of magic, laughter and healing, as we journey into the woods to unearth the follies and foibles of human beings…and fairies.
“This wacky, whimsical and reimagined production is Detroit Mercy Theatre Company’s first Shakespearean play in a decade,” said Greg Grobis, chair of the Department of Performing Arts at University of Detroit Mercy. “In a time when our country is divided and our world is in disorder, producing a play that feels fanciful on the surface yet reveals consequences of malevolence is rather appropriate.” Grobis says the production embraces the language of Shakespeare while stepping into the modern age, marrying the previous century with our new decade. It is a play not to be missed.
