Detroit Mercy has once again ranked among the top 20% of all universities nationwide in The Wall Street Journal’s (WSJ) 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) college rankings that were released Sept. 17.
The WSJ/THE ranked Detroit Mercy No. 180 out of almost 1,000 schools in the United States for 2021. This is the third year in a row that the University has ranked among the top 20% of all universities in the WSJ/THE college rankings. Since the first year Detroit Mercy was included in these rankings in 2017, the institution has risen from No. 272 to 180 for 2021.
The WSJ/THE College Ranking system has earned critical acclaim for its pioneering approach to prioritizing student success and learning in its analyses of colleges and universities. These rankings provide students and institutions with access to a comprehensive list of more than 1,000 institutions evaluated on their educational impact and the lifetime benefit to students.
“We are honored again to be rated among the top 20% of all universities and colleges in The Wall Street Journal/THE College rankings for 2021,” said Antoine M. Garibaldi, president of Detroit Mercy. “This selective ranking is a well-deserved compliment for our faculty and staff who provide our students and alumni with an excellent and values-centered education,” he added.
The 2021 rankings are comprised of 15 individual performance indicators designed to answer the questions that matter most to students and their families. These indicators include data sources such as the U.S. government’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), U.S. Dept. of Education’s Federal Student Aid and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), among others.
The WSJ/THE 2021 rankings come immediately after U.S. News & World Report also ranked the University among the top 200 in the national universities category in its 2021 “Best Colleges” edition rankings on Sept. 14. Detroit Mercy earned a No. 187 rank; this is the second year in a row that Detroit Mercy has ranked high in this newly designated category. Only three other Michigan universities earned a place in this year’s group.
