Isaiah McKinnon ’75, ’78, a retired Detroit Mercy professor, retired chief of police of the Detroit Police Department and former deputy mayor of Detroit, was recently recognized with a 2021 Shining Light Award by the Detroit Free Press and the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition.

McKinnon will be honored with the Neal Shine Award for Exemplary Regional Leadership, named in memory of Neal Shine, the late Free Press editor and publisher and former Detroit Mercy professor, at a virtual event on Oct. 7.
