Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church is bringing in a spiritual community prior to the 2021 Detroit Free Press Marathon with a “Blessing of the Sneakers” Mass on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m.
The fourth annual Blessing of the Sneakers is similar to the events done prior to the marathons in Boston, Chicago and New York. The service is Catholic, however all denominations are welcome to attend. A blessing for all runners and athletes will be given at the end of the Mass.
There will also be a live stream of the service on the Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church Facebook page. Free parking is available for those attending the Mass at the University of Detroit Mercy Law School student parking lot behind the church.
Ss. Peter and Paul Church is located on 438 St. Antoine Street in Detroit.
