Antoine Davis became the Horizon League’s all-time leading scorer on Thursday, helping lead Detroit Mercy men’s basketball to a 75-66 road victory over preseason league favorite, Purdue Fort Wayne.
Davis made three consecutive 3-pointers in a span of 90 seconds later in the contest to break the record and give the Titans the lead for good. He finished the contest with a game-high 22 points, making five 3-pointers.
The graduate senior guard moved into 13th place in NCAA history with 2,919 points, surpassing Loyola Chicago’s Alfredrick Hughes, who had held the Horizon League scoring mark since 1985. Davis was presented with a game ball following the contest by Horizon League Commissioner Julie Roe Lach.
Davis is closing in on 3,000 career points and would become the 11th player all-time in Division I history to reach that mark.
Davis also passed J.J. Redick of Duke (2002-06, 457) and Iowa’s Jordan Bohannon (2016-22, 455) during the contest to move to third all-time in NCAA history in career 3-pointers with 459. The career record is 509 by Wofford’s Fletcher Magee.
Four Titans scored in double figures in Thursday’s victory including Gerald Liddell, who made his Titan debut in the victory, totaling 16 points and 16 rebounds.
