Four Detroit Mercy business students — Jacob Cichon, David Hershman, Aidan Spratt and Liam Spratt — recently placed in the top 25 worldwide in the ETF Global Portfolio Challenge.
Under the guidance of Professor of Finance Omid Sabbaghi, College of Business Administration students competed against students from 425 schools in 41 countries. No other University had more than two students place inside of the top 25.
Cichon placed 14th with investment portfolios returning 11.54%, Liam Spratt was 20th with a 10.64% return, David Hershman was next in 21st with a 10.63% return and Aidan Spratt was 25th with a 9.89% return.
Despite not placing inside of the top 25, CBA students Emmanuel Myk-Ojomolade and Austin Davis earned spots on the leaderboard for more than half of the 11 weeks of competition.
This is the third time that Detroit Mercy has had multiple students place inside the top 25 worldwide in the competition. The University had four in 2018 and three in 2019.
In addition to participating in the ETF Global Portfolio Challenge, these CBA students and others also managed a portfolio of real investments, the Mercy and Jesuit Student Investment Capital (Majestic) Fund, published an investment newsletter (The Long Strategy) and gave presentations to industry professionals. Their initiatives are part of CBA’s Charlton Center for Responsible Investing.
