International Women’s Month discussion to be March 14

The Department of Political Science will host a roundtable discussion on the status of women in Afghanistan, Iran and the United States from 12:45-2 p.m. Tuesday, March 14. The virtual discussion is titled, “Under Pressure: Women in Afghanistan, Iran and the United States.”

Three speakers will discuss the lives of women in their home countries in light of recent political developments. Khatera Alizada is a research affiliate at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an expert on women in Afghanistan; Khadijeh Noloufar Salimi is adjunct faculty at Old Dominion University and Christopher Newport University and an expert on women’s suffrage in Iran; Jocelyn M. Boryczka, who is dean of Detroit Mercy’s College of Liberal Arts & Education, is the editor and co-editor of New Political Science: A Journal of Politics & Culture.

The Zoom event is being held in honor of International Women’s Month and is cosponsored by the Department of Political Science, the Women’s and Gender Studies Program and the Islamic Studies Program.
