Phenomenal Women’s Reception celebrates women at Detroit Mercy

The Detroit Mercy community is invited to the 18th Phenomenal Women’s Reception, hosted 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28 in the Student Union Ballroom.

The reception, hosted by the Student Life Office, is dedicated to celebrating the lives of women at Detroit Mercy. Those who are planning on attending, are asked to RSVP in advance through Detroit Mercy Live.

The event is open to all students, faculty and staff. The event is free for students and $10 for faculty and staff.

Title IX Coordinator Megan Novell, a graduate of the University, will receive the Ashley Grey Legacy Award. Novell, who joined Detroit Mercy in 2006, is also an adjunct professor for the English Department and is affiliate faculty for the Women’s and Gender Studies program.

As part of the event, four students writers will each be reading their own original poems, inspired by Maya Angelou’s Phenomenal Woman, the poem after which the reception was named. Poet-in-residence Stacy Gnall organized this portion of the event, which is new this year. The four student poets who will read their work are: Allison Molloy, Kristin Murphy, Alyssa Porcerelli and Olivia Vitale.
