The Detroit Mercy community is invited to participate, compete and submit for the 2023 UDM Photography Contest! Sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, the contest is open to all employees and current students of all of Detroit Mercy’s campuses.
All photographic submissions must be the original work of the contestant and have been taken between Jan. 1, 2023 and Nov. 5, 2023. All entries must also be high-resolution digital images. More details can be found on the contest webpage.
The deadline for submission is Sunday, Nov. 5 at 11:59 p.m. First-place winners in each category will receive cash prizes and an enlarged, mounted copy of their winning photographs.
The Detroit Mercy community can submit photographs in the following five categories (one entry per category):
- Abstract Conceptual — Images of unusual patterns, lighting or objects recognized for their design element (streaking light photos, mechanical structures, reflections in glass or metal, etc.)*
- People — Photos or people, alone or in a group. Such pictures may be candid, humorous, journalistic or interpretative portraits where an emphasis is place on the person, not the environment.*
- Nature/Scenic — Images of animal life, plant life, wild creatures, insets, landscapes, seascapes, underwater, architectural, industrial scenes, seasonal scenes and more.*
- After Dusk to Dawn — Details the photographic imagery captured after the sun goes down. This includes but is not limited to starry skies, life under neon lights, streaking traffic lights, etc.*
- Digital Creation/Manipulation — Images can be digitally enhanced or altered to create a different photograph. Removed images, inserted images and cloned images may be used to create a different picture.
NOTE: * – Image enhancement in these submissions must be limited to minor adjustments (contrast, exposure, cropping, HDR, dodge and burn) are appropriate.
