Ariana Peruzzi, a doctoral candidate and Newcombe Fellow at University of Michigan, will speak on “Migration: What are the rights of Refugees and Asylum Seekers?” on Monday, March 18 from 7-9 p.m. in the Commerce & Finance Building, Room 138.
Learn about the growing refugee crisis, and participate in an exploration of the political and ethical questions facing our society, such as, who ought to be eligible for asylum? Why do we have obligations to asylum seekers, and what are our obligations?
Peruzzi will share reflections on her own family’s experience with the asylum process.
These experiences of hers led her to pursue an in-depth philosophical exploration of these topics, resulting in her dissertation entitled, “Theorizing Displacement: On Nonvoluntary Migration, Asylum, and the Right to Remain.”
The event is sponsored by the Carney Latin American Solidarity Archive (CLASA), and is co-sponsored by the Department of Philosophy.
