In Sept. 2024, a crack commando unit was formed consisting of University students to address the growing concern of people calling the University and seeking an operator only to go unanswered and sent to phone mail jail or to randomly press keys to reach anyone who might answer. The unit is known as the O team. O as in telecom operator.
Since September, this small team of students has been leveraging their communication skills and performing standard operator services for incoming calls to the University that route through our phone trees to an operator.
Should you see a phone call coming your way with the caller ID name of “UDM Operator” please pick up your University phone to receive a call from someone coming through our operator service. Not only will you make our O team staff happy to have assisted the caller, but the caller will be more than appreciative to reach you.
For those tracking unusual University history, prior operator services were retired back on Aug. 31, 2008, and new operator services officially started on Sept. 27, 2024.
