A fellow participating in a prestigious American Council on Education program is working with Detroit Mercy President Antoine M. Garibaldi to observe and learn lessons in leadership.
Georgetown University Associate Teaching Professor Andria K. Wisler, who is also executive director of Georgetown’s Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching and Service, will be operating from Detroit Mercy’s McNichols Campus.
Wisler earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in English, a master’s degree from Teachers College at Columbia University and a doctorate in comparative and international education from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She has been at Georgetown since 2008 and executive director of the Center since 2013.
ACE fellows are placed on campuses across the country to provide them “a customized learning experience that enables participants to immerse themselves in the study and practice of leadership,” according to the ACE website.
“I’m really excited to be at a Jesuit university that is fundamentally different from Georgetown,” Wisler said. “When I saw Detroit Mercy had such a diversity in programming from architecture to dental and nursing programs, I really wanted to come here and learn.”
She will be working out of the fifth floor of the Fisher Administrative Building.
“It is a special honor that Dr. Wisler selected Detroit Mercy to spend her fellowship semester,” Garibaldi said. “She is an excellent teacher and scholar and I look forward to learning as much from her as she will learn from us.”
Wisler will be at the University through the end of May.
