Detroit Mercy men’s basketball senior Antoine Davis earned a preseason honor Monday as he was one of 20 players nationally named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List. The annual award honors the nation’s top point guard in Division I.
The Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award – given by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame – was named after Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
Davis enters his senior season nearing numerous school, Horizon League and NCAA records. He has scored 2,040 points in his three seasons as a Titan, just 279 points off the school record.
The second leading returning scorer in the country at 24.0 points per game, Davis started all 22 games last season and was an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, a Lou Henson Award All-American and finalist as well as First Team All-Horizon League and NABC First Team All-District 12.
