Join Beth Blissman, representative to the United Nations at Loretto Community, on Thursday Oct. 25 from 12:45 to 2 p.m. in Room 138 of the Commerce & Finance Building and discuss how the University can more effectively engage our community and incorporate research in our practice of service learning.
Blissman brings more than 20 years of experience as a practitioner and scholar in community-engaged teaching and learning in higher education to this work, as well as a deep interest in permaculture, spirituality and shifting worldviews. She is a former director of both the Bonner Center for Service & Learning at Oberlin College and the University of Denver’s Service Learning Program. She has developed models for student leadership, created community service work-study programs and supported a variety of faculty and curriculum development processes related to community-campus engagement. She is curious about how to build connections, increase resilience and design better solutions that empower learning and creative thinking.
If you are interested in attending, contact Institute for Leadership and Service Director of Service Learning Tim Hipskind, S.J., at hipskijt@udmercy.edu.
Blissman will also speak on “U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Pathway to Empowerment?” on Wednesday, Oct. 24 in Room 124 of the Health Professions Facility. Check in to the 2:30 p.m. talk or 6:45 p.m. talk on Detroit Mercy Live.
