University of Detroit Mercy men’s basketball student-athlete Antoine Davis has earned several preseason honors ahead of the 2020-21 season.
The junior guard was named to the Jerry West Award watch list and recognized as a preseason All-Horizon League First Team member this week.
The Jerry West Award recognizes the top shooting guards in the NCAA and is given by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Davis was a top-10 finalist for the award last season.
Davis, a two-time First Team All-HL selection, was the Horizon League’s leading scorer last season at 24.3 points per game, fourth in the nation. He became the fourth player in league history to lead the conference in scoring twice, and just the third player to do it in consecutive seasons.
In two first two collegiate seasons, Davis has already scored 1,513 career points to stand 13th in school history and his 233 3-pointers are tied for third in the school record book. His 3.88 3-point field goals per game is currently fifth all-time in NCAA history.
College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds for the Jerry West Award. In late January, the watch list of 20 players will be narrowed to just 10. In late February, five finalists will be presented to Mr. West and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee. The winner of the 2021 Jerry West Award will be presented on Friday, April 9, 2021.
For more information on the 2021 Jerry West Award and the latest updates, visit the Hall of Fame’s awards website and follow @hoophall and #WestAward on Twitter and Instagram. Starting Five Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies will go live on Friday, Nov. 6.
The Titans were picked to finish ninth in the Horizon League preseason poll. The Horizon League also released its 2020-21 conference schedule for men’s and women’s basketball, with the non-conference slate following in the near future.
