Some 200 metro Detroit students and counselors will come to Detroit Mercy’s McNichols Campus in July to learn financial literacy in an event hosted by the Charlton Center for Responsible Investing.
The July 10-14 camp is sponsored by Money Matters for Youth, a Detroit-based financial literacy program. Gail Perry-Mason, the group’s founder, studied Finance at Detroit Mercy and oversees the youth investor camp. Its mission is to teach children of all ages the basics of economics, investments and financial responsibility. This year’s theme is The Sport of Investing and campers will participate in learning experiences on and off campus.
Hosting this camp aligns with the mission of the Charlton Center, which is to provide academic excellence and experiential training to students pursuing careers in the investment and investment-related financial services industry. It also supports the Center’s goal of increasing the number of black, brown and female students in the sector, helping to reverse a long-term trend of under-representation.
