University of Detroit Mercy’s Department of Athletics will hold the annual Road to a Championship fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 6, at Z’s Villa in Detroit.
This fundraiser helps support UDM’s Road to a Championship (RTC) goal of $5 million to upgrade the Detroit Mercy athletics program. The goal of this important campaign is to help build a national reputation for Titan athletic teams that matches UDM’s academic reputation. In addition, UDM hopes to develop a new generation of Titan faithful.
This special event will feature appearances by Detroit sports icons. In the past, former Detroit Pistons Earl Cureton and Isiah Thomas, and former Red Wing Darren McCarty, have joined in the festivities.
Dan Kennedy ’89, a forward on the men’s basketball team from 1985-89, hopes that alumni and community members will come out to support one of Detroit’s oldest athletic program.
“Whether you graduated from University of Detroit, Mercy College or Detroit Mercy, we are all Titans and from the D,” he said. “As the second generation member of a three-generation Titan family, I look foward to raising awareness, interest and engagement for this great institution. Your help and support of our efforts to truly become Detroit’s College Team is very much appreciated!”
The event takes place from 6—9 p.m. Cocktails and appetizers will be available. In addition, participants will receive select door prizes, have a chance to bid on unique “experience” auction items and enjoy live music. Participants may wear casual attire and Titan gear is preferred.
Tickets are $125 each and can be purchased via cash, check, or Venmo (@Zachary-Kennedy-13).
