The Detroit Urban Health AI Challenge, which was hosted by Detroit Mercy, brought in more than 70 in-person attendees with an additional 108 people joining online.
A significant highlight of the event was the formation of strategic partnerships, most notably with Amazon AWS, opening up exploratory discussions around developing an innovation hub at UDM in collaboration with the College of Health Professions and the College of Engineering & Science.
The top two winning teams each earned a $4,000 TechTown Detroit MVP Program, plus Amazon gift cards. Other prizes were UDM-AWS Innovation Programs.

- 3rd place — Federated Healthcare AI Models (UDM CES); Team: Mario Padilla Rodriguez, Ahlam Al Mohammad (UDM)
- Best Project for Social Impact — Barber and Beautician Led Blood Pressure Reduction Program; Team: Sara Mustapha, Amar Hamade, Shadae Appling, Navaris Thomas, Sheila Williamson (UDM), Arjun Patel
- Most Innovative — Functional Addict (Salvation Army); Team: Emma Mossing, Marissa Green, Sam Cannarella, Kailyn Nunneley, Dale Murphy, Mariam Korkees (UDM), Ambur Alexiou, Bob Idzion
The Detroit Urban Health AI Challenge was a celebration of innovation, showcase of talent and a step forward in addressing urban health challenges through technology. The success of this event has set a strong foundation for future initiatives and we look forward to seeing the continued impact of the projects and partnerships formed during an incredible two-day journey.
