The Department of English is proud to announce the winners of this year’s Dudley Randall Poetry Prize! Sam Gillmore earned first place for their poem, “The Girl I Used to Be.”
Now in its 54th year, the prize continues Dudley Randall’s legacy of amplifying creative voices within the Detroit Mercy community. This year’s prize-winning poems can be read on the Dudley Randall Poetry Prize website.
They will be on display in the McNichols Campus Library in April for National Poetry Month.
Full winners are:
- First place: Sam Gillmore — “The Girl I Used to Be”
- Second place: Antajuan Scott — “Hungry”
- Third place (tie): Mary Gagnon — “Gauze”
- Third place (tie): Andrew Bosah — “The Shore of the Camp”
- Honorable Mention: Katherine Mutschler — “who deign to play creator”
Congratulations to all of the excellent poets who submitted their work, and special thanks to Stacy Gnall, poet-in-residence, for organizing this year’s contest and to the 2024 judges: Casie Bell, Farnaz Fatemi and Isaac Pickell.
