Detroit Mercy’s Institute for Leadership and Service invites all faculty and staff to join incoming first-year students for the annual half-day of service during the Prologues, Transitions and Viewpoints (PTV) orientation program, Aug. 24-25 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Those interested in participating are asked to meet in the Fountain Lounge of the Student Union.
This year’s event will focus on clearing overgrown lots in the Fitzgerald, Martin Park, Palmer Park and Hope Village neighborhoods — all of which are located just outside of the McNichols Campus. Some service volunteers will also be assigned to clearing spaces at Gesu Catholic School, Palmer Park Prep Academy and a retirement home near the Marygrove Conservancy, as well as painting a house and assisting with a local garden in the Fitzgerald neighborhood.
Schedule for each day
7:30 a.m. — Breakfast in Fountain Lounge
8:00 a.m. — Orientation at pre-reflection
9:05 a.m. — Departure for sites
9:30 a.m. — 12 p.m. – Work at service sites
