The McNichols Campus Library and the Black Abolitionist Archive invite Detroit Mercy students, faculty and staff for the annual Constitution Day event from 1-2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19. The event will be held on the second floor of the Bargman Room of the McNichols Campus Library.
This year’s theme will be privacy rights and the featured speaker will be Associate Dean of Faculty Research and Development and Professor of Law J. Richard Broughton. He is an expert on American politics and institutions and the intersection of politics, constitutionalism and criminal justice.
Sept. 17 is officially Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, so designated by a joint resolution of the United States Congress to commemorate the 1787 signing of the United States Constitution on that date.
Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year is required to hold an educational program on Constitution Day about the U.S. Constitution for its students.
