The Detroit Mercy community is invited to attend the dedication ceremony of the the last few ribbons onto Healing Wall, Panel 5 with renowned artist and creator Carole Morisseau on Wednesday, April 26 at 4 p.m. in the Briggs Building.

You may have seen it on the McNichols Campus: the brightly colored spray of ribbons surrounding the images of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

What debuted as a Detroit Mercy community project in 2020, will conclude with the last few ribbons. Healing Wall, Panel 5 is a collaborative project calling Detroit Mercy to join in solidarity by naming those killed by racism in order to help heal as a community.

The dedication ceremony will feature the artist, members of the Detroit Mercy community, who will read names on behalf of those who submitted them. The event will include poetry and song by local artists and names read by members of the Detroit Mercy community. Refreshments will also be served.

The piece will be installed into a uniquely designed frame fabricated by the School of Architecture & Community Development, thus furthering the spirit of collaboration in remembrance. Panel 5 is one of two panels installed in the city of Detroit in recent months. Another panel was recently dedicated at and hangs in the main hallway of Henry Ford Hospital’s Main Campus.
