Founders Week celebrates the opening of the first House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland by Catherine McAuley and her companions who formed the order of the Sisters of Mercy.

Founders week also celebrates the approval from Rome of the organization of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) founded by Ignatius of Loyola on Sept. 27, 1540.

A number of activities acknowledge and celebrate both during Founders Week from Sept. 24-29:

  • Sunday, Sept. 24 (9 p.m.) — Mass: Mercy Reflection, St. Ignatius Chapel
  • Monday, Sept. 25 – Friday, Sept. 29 — 1000 Peace Cranes & Grow with Us crafts in Student Union
  • Tuesday, Sept. 26 (6 p.m.) — Take Back the Night!
  • Wednesday, Sept. 27 (12 p.m.) — Mass & Pizza, St. Ignatius Chapel
  • Thursday, Sept. 28 (12:30 p.m.) — Bubble Tea & Treats, Fountain Terrace
  • Thursday, Sept. 28 (5:30 p.m.) — Achieving A Beloved Community, College of Health Professions, Room 124 (Employees only)
  • Friday, Sept. 29 (6:30-11 a.m.) — Pope Francis Center Day of Service, downtown Detroit
