Give back with Detroit Mercy through mitten, sock drives

Looking for a way to give back this holiday season? Give back to great causes through Detroit Mercy right on the McNichols Campus.

Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit Honor Society, is once again be collecting socks for homeless people in Detroit. Their “sock drive” will run from Monday, Nov. 20 through Friday, Dec. 15.

There will be collection boxes located in a number of locations around the McNichols Campus. Homeless people need socks, especially during the winter months to keep their feet warm and dry. Last year, more than 700 pairs of socks were distributed to some of the homeless shelters in Detroit.

Detroit Mercy will also be collecting new, warm and durable mittens and gloves for people of all ages to give to Mittens for Detroit for distribution. The collection runs through Monday, Dec. 18.

Donation boxes can be found on the first floor of the College of Health Professions Building and the main floor of the Student Union. No time to shop? A donation of any amount is welcomed and can be made at mittensfordetroit.org.

Thank you for helping donate to these two worthy causes!
