Grants totaling $213,500 have been given in recent months to University of Detroit Mercy to continue, and in some cases expand, programming during the pandemic. The grants received are:
- $50,000 from the Ford Motor Company Fund to the University’s Campus Kitchen to fund a manager position.
- $40,000 from the Ford Motor Company Fund to the University’s Institute for Learning & Service for the Ford Community Corps Explorer project to fund student and faculty team projects partnering with community nonprofits.
- $25,000 from AccessLex Institute to provide emergency resources to Detroit Mercy Law students in need of emergency funds during the pandemic.
- $23,000 from the Sisters of Mercy West Midwest for Amplifying Women’s Wisdom: The Mercy Charism at University of Detroit Mercy, a program that will provide emersion experiences for the Mercy charism.
- $18,000 from the Michigan State Bar Foundation to support a full-time attorney at Detroit Mercy Law’s Veterans law clinic to handle claims.
- $15,000 from Ford Motor Company for Engineering & Technology Teacher Bootcamp, a summer camp for high school teacher curriculum training.
- $15,000 from Delta Dental Foundation to keep the dental clinic at Detroit Mercy Dental operating during the pandemic.
- $10,000 from the Ford Motor Company to provide funding for Science & Engineering Exploration Camp for high school students.
- $7,500 from Fiat Chrysler Automobile to support purchase of materials for the SAE Vehicle Competition.
- $6,500 from the Congregation of St. Joseph to support Detroit Mercy’s The Hive, a food pantry for students, to meet increased needs due to COVID-19 for students who need food and cleaning supplies.
- $3,500 from the Congregation of St. Joseph to help Detroit Mercy’s Campus Kitchen meet the increased need for community outreach caused by the pandemic.
