While many colleges and universities have been lauded for increasing student diversity, many of these same institutions have failed to achieve any comparable diversity among their faculty.

In a ReBUILDetroit professional development event with Marybeth Gasman, author of “Doing the Right Thing: How to End Systemic Racism in Faculty Hiring,” she takes a hard, insightful look at these issues.

This virtual event is set for Thursday, Dec. 8 at 12:45 p.m.

Interested participants are asked to register by Sunday, Dec. 5. A Zoom link will be sent ahead of the event.

Relying on national data and interviews with provosts, deans and department chairs from more than 60 major universities, Gasman documents the institutional forces stymieing faculty diversification, and she makes the case for how such deficiencies can and should be rectified.

Gasman is a distinguished professor at Rutgers University. She also serves as the executive director of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity & Justice and the executive director of the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions.
