Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Pamela Zarkowski spoke at the American Dental Education (ADEA) Allied Dental Program Directors Conference in San Diego, June 3, focusing on “10 Things that Keep Administrators Up at Night.” She also presented a “PechaKucha” formatted presentation, consisting of 20 slides in 4 minutes, focused on social media and legal, ethical and professional issues in Allied Dental Education.
On June 26, Zarkowski served as a member of the Public Health Committee for the American Dental Education (ADEA) NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care (ORWH/IPE-CC) meeting in Washington, DC. Representatives from five disciplines, medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy and public health convened to consider women’s health as a priority in Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Interprofessional Practice (IPP) curriculum development.
On June 27, Zarkowski attended a conference on Advancing Dental Education: Gies in the 21st Century at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. She served as a discussion leader addressing the future of Allied Dental Education including dental hygiene, dental assisting, dental technology and dental therapy education, licensure, scope of practice, Interprofessional practice and role in addressing oral health care needs.
On July 27, Zarkowski also served as a panelist as part of a symposium on Harassment in Science: Steps to No Tolerance at the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) meeting in London, England. Her presentation was titled, “The Sexual Harassment Climate in US Dental Education: Status and Strategies for Prevention.”
